The big surprise return of the men’s 2021 Royal Rumble match last night was Christian, who hasn’t wrestled a proper match since his early retirement in 2014.
Unlike Edge the year prior, no sites were reporting that Christian was going to be returning after seven years at the men’s Rumble this year, and the former World Heavyweight Champion revealed why on a WWE Network exclusive:
“I was playing coy all day in the locker room since nobody knew what was going on. It was a fun surprise.
“It was surreal [to be in the ring after 7 years] to be honest with you. I didn’t know what to expect. You know its funny, everybody has a plan until you get hit. And that’s exactly what happened to me. I got hit once and I was like, ‘ok, its on.’ This is what I was born to do, so I felt like I was home.”
Fans have been speculating that this could be the start of a final run for Christian, something that he commented on during his Network exclusive interview:
“All I was ever promised was one more match. That could be it.”
