A popular WWE star has expressed a desire for another match with Roman Reigns, with the Universal Championship on the line.
Kevin Owens challenged Roman Reigns for the Universal Title at TLC 2020, Royal Rumble 2021, and even on an episode of SmackDown in a steel cage match. Reigns may have put Owens down, but according to Owens himself, the former titleholder is not out.
On Talking Smack, Owens sent a message to Reigns, telling the Universal Champion not to forget about him. He admitted that he didn’t enjoy his Universal title reign on Raw, as he focused on his successes, rather than living in the moment.
Owens vowed to take the title from Reigns if Cesaro is unsuccessful at WrestleMania Backlash next Sunday.
Here is the full quote:
“When I was the Universal Champion the first time, I did not enjoy it at all. I was obsessed with being the best possible champion that I could be…I didn’t enjoy any of it.
“But this is where I’ve changed. When I become the Universal Champion again, I’m gonna love every second of it. Just know this: If Roman Reigns doesn’t lose the title to Cesaro. And if he doesn’t lose to someone else before I get to him, again, I’m going to take the title. Don’t forget about me. Don’t make the mistake to think that I’m gone because I am not going anywhere.”
Owens became the second-ever Universal Champion in 2016, winning the vacant title with an assist from Triple H. He held the gold until Fastlane 2017, when Goldberg defeated him for the prestigious championship.
Roman Reigns last defended his Universal Championship against Daniel Bryan, banishing Bryan from SmackDown. It has been reported that WWE is still hopeful that he will re-sign with them, following his last contract recently expiring.
WALTER mentioned Bryan on After The Bell as a performer he’d love to face one day. You can read about WALTER’s dream opponents here.
