A top AEW talent has revealed that he was injured in the lead-up to his major Double or Nothing match this Sunday.
Cody Rhodes and Anthony Ogogo are set to lock horns on during the May 30 pay-per-view. Ogogo has noted that he was unfortunately injured during training this week.
The former boxer revealed to Metro that he has suffered a broken rib less than a week before his AEW pay-per-view debut. Confirming that the injury came as a result of a botched move, Ogogo seemed to indicate that the match will still take place.
Laying all of his cards on the table, Ogogo said:
“I’m sitting here now – I’m very, very open and honest, probably too open and honest… But I am who I am, I do what I do. I’ve got a broken rib right now. My rib’s broken because I did a move in training this week. I did it wrong, and I broke a rib. I’m now wrestling Cody, the best wrestler in the world, with a broken rib… And that’s real, that’s not me just saying that. My rib is f**ked!”
Ogogo signed with AEW in October 2019. He began appearing as a guest commentator for AEW Dark in late 2020, before attacking Rhodes in March. The former boxer is currently undefeated in AEW, defeating Cole Karter and Austin Gunn ahead of Double or Nothing.
Cody Rhodes has recently addressed the rumors of heat between AEW EVPs, giving his theory as to where the speculation originated from.
Double or Nothing will air on Fite on May 30 at 8pm ET.
