It has been reported that the Kenny Omega and Andrade El Idolo’s AAA Triplemania XXIX match originally had a different finish planned.
At Triplemania XXIX on August 14, Omega defeated Andrade to retain his AAA Mega Championship. As per Dave Meltzer on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Andrade was originally pencilled in to win the title.
Reporting that AEW asked AAA to hold off on Andrade’s victory, Meltzer said:
“The backstory on this was that Andrade was originally going to win. AEW has control of Kenny’s finishes, they have to approve everything. They asked AAA to hold it off because I don’t think they wanted Kenny doing jobs on Friday and Saturday night. AAA is working with them, so Kenny won, that’s what happened.”
Omega notably was pinned by Christian Cage for the IMPACT World Championship on the premiere (August 13) episode of AEW Rampage. Cage will defend his title at IMPACT Emergence this coming Friday.
At Triplemania, WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair accompanied Andrade to his title match. Omega has now reacted to Ric Flair getting physical in an AAA ring.
