A lot of contracts for the top NXT talent have been expiring this year, such as Adam Cole, Pete Dunne and most recently Johnny Gargano.
Fightful Select (Subscription required) has provided details as to why so many NXT contracts are coming due this year. The report says that Gargano was one of several NXT talents that were offered new deals back in October 2019, when the show moved to USA Network. Dozens of wrestlers either re-signed or restructured their deals during this time.
A source told Fightful that there wasn’t much incentive for the top NXT talent to re-sign for the rates being offered for a long-term deal, which were ‘nowhere near’ the Raw and SmackDown deals being offered.
There has been different payout structures in NXT depending on the wrestlers, but this isn’t just limited to top names. While Adam Cole was one of the names that passed on the 2019 offer, there were other names further down the card who also passed on these deals.
