A new report has indicated that WWE might have played a role in a Major League Wrestling (MLW) streaming deal being nixed.
According to Fightful Select (subscription required), there’s ongoing issues with plans for a third-party wrestling promotion to announce a streaming deal with Tubi, a platform owned by FOX. Fightful had learned that the promotion in question was MLW.
The report noted that deal was going to be announced in August, however a FOX source stated alleged that WWE did not respond ‘favourably’ when informed about the agreement, before its ‘imminent’ announcement. Fightful reports that as a result, the future of this third-party deal is uncertain.
The report stated that after asking for an official comment on the matter, MLW and WWE didn’t provide one, and FOX declined to comment.
WWE and FOX have a working relationship, with SmackDown airing on FOX every Friday. In June, it was reported that FOX was unhappy with WWE, as the company was promoting NBC Peacock on SmackDown, a competitor’s streaming service. Peacock is the current home of the WWE Network in the US.
A separate report recently provided details on the current relationship between WWE and FOX.
