AEW President Tony Khan has discussed an incredible stat surrounding AEW match finishes, following Wednesday’s edition of Dynamite.
On the show, CM Punk attacked ‘Captain’ Shawn Dean, during his bout with MJF, causing Dean to win via DQ. Khan has revealed that Punk’s actions made history, and not just because MJF has started 2022 0-1.
On Twitter, Khan pointed out that Dean became the first wrestler to win via disqualification across 140 episodes of AEW TV. Khan wrote:
“Congratulations Captain @ShawnDean773 on your win over @The_MJF on #AEWDynamite! Captain joins a short list of few wrestlers to hold a win over MJF in @AEW history. Captain also became the 1st wrestler in 140 episodes of AEW TV (118 Dynamite/22 Rampage) to ever win a match via DQ”
In July 2021, Khan stated that AEW underutilizes disqualification and count-out finishes on purpose, comparing his booking to promotions such as ECW and All-Japan.
Also on this week’s show, Rey Fenix appeared to suffer a serious arm injury during the AEW Tag Team Title main-event. Updates have emerged on Fenix’s injury, ahead of his scheduled MRI scan.
