Taya Valkyrie (fka WWE’s Franky Monet) has explained how her upcoming NWA appearance came to be.
Valkyrie will make her NWA debut at the June 11 ‘Alwayz Ready’ pay-per-view, against Natalia Markova in singles action.
In an exclusive interview with Luke Owen on the WrestleTalk Podcast, Valkyrie noted that she’s excited to step into an NWA ring.
Discussing her relationship with the promotion, Valkyrie said:
“Pollo Del Mar reached out to me asking what’s going on right now and is there a chance you’d consider coming to NWA. I was like, of course! With the state of the wrestling world right now it’s fun because you can pretty much work anywhere you want and have first time matchups and work with different people. I got on a call with Billy (Corgan) and he was super excited with the idea of me coming in for Alwayz Ready.
“I know what everybody knows. This is an iconic company which has been around forever, a lot of fantastic wrestlers have been here since the beginning of time. I was excited to walk through that door.
“Billy Corgan is a creative, interesting, wonderful person who really believes in the product. I was excited to talk wrestling with him, my career, what we want to do as performers and what I could bring to the table for them.
“(Natalia Markova and I) wrestled at House Of Glory earlier this year in New York. I’m excited to face her again because of the circumstances of that match. My flight was extremely late leaving LA, the flight took off and came back because there was an issue. I ran from the airport to the show and had about ten minutes before I had to face her. It was a rushed, stressful, situation which is why it’ll be fun to do it again, especially on a pay-per-view.”
