WWE reportedly has a backup plan for Roman Reigns at SummerSlam, amidst Randy Orton injury concerns.
Fightful Select (subscription required), previously reported that Randy Orton has been dealing with a back injury for some time, with WWE now fearing that he will have to undergo surgery, possibly putting him on the shelf for the rest of 2022.
Orton was reportedly the planned opponent for the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion at SummerSlam on July 30.
Per the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE does have a plan B for the Biggest Party of the Summer
Naming a WWE star who is NOT part of WWE’s backup plan, Dave Meltzer wrote:
“There is a backup plan for Reigns but we were told at press time the plan was not Riddle.”
Riddle will challenge for Reign’s gold on this week’s episode of SmackDown. This will be the Tribal Chief’s first title defence since unifying the WWE and Universal championships at WrestleMania 38 in April.
We will continue to provide updates on Randy Orton’s status as they become available.
