The WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship has been vacant since Sasha Banks and Naomi’s WWE suspension was announced on the May 20 episode of SmackDown.
It was also announced that night that a tournament would take place to crown the next champions. The tournament was unheard from for months, until Vince McMahon’s retirement last month. Shortly after, WWE then announced the tournament to crown the new champions. Coincidence I am sure.
The tournament has take place over the past month on both Raw and SmackDown, with the final set to take place on tonight’s episode of WWE Raw, pitting IYO SKY and Dakota Kai against Aliyah and Raquel Rodriguez.
As Triple H continues to take over WWE, he has already put renewed focus on the Intercontinental and United States Championships in recent weeks, many have hoped that he would be making the same strides with the Women’s Tag Team Championship.
Per Fightful Select (subscription required), there is set to be ‘pomp and circumstance’ surrounding the titles on tonight’s show, with the company hoping to make them feel as important as possible.
Also set for tonight’s show is an appearance from WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle. Plans for Kurt’s Raw appearance can be found here.
