Commentators are a crucial part of any wrestling show. I mean, how am I supposed to know if it’s Sasha Banks if Michael Cole isn’t there screaming “BOSS TIME” into my soul?
For the vast majority of wrestling shows, the commentary team doesn’t change during the show, but this has been the case in recent times in AEW, with Jim Ross only calling the second hour of AEW Dynamite.
However, Ross is now back commentating on both hours of Dynamite, and when Dave Meltzer was asked why this is the case on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, he said:
“It’s all Tony Khan. Every one of these decisions is Tony Khan, and he changes the decision. I remember the first week when he did it (had Jim Ross only call the second hour of Dynamite), I asked him, ‘Is this a new permanent thing?’, and it’s just like, ‘Well it’s something we can do’.
“He’s not committed to anything as the permanent thing. I think it’s just kinda like what he feels is the deal… you kinda go by hunches a lot. Some weeks his hunch is that you do that, some weeks the hunch is not to do it.”

Well at least that doesn’t sound unnecessarily confusing. Imagine turning up to work not knowing if you’re going to be working your whole shift, or just a portion of it.
Tony Khan is a unique man.
