Shane McMahon has been a part of a lot of major memorable moments as a part of his father’s empire over the past 25 years both in the ring and behind the scenes.
However, there was one situation where, had things gone sideways, he’d have a much different WWE legacy.
Back in 2001, Vince McMahon launched his XFL football league, and you know how that ended, it’s been talked about to death. Vince however, not one to prevent his family from getting job opportunities, hired his daughter Stephanie McMahon to serve as a sideline reporter.
Former WWE lead writer Brian Gewirtz noted in his book “There’s Just One Problem…: True Tales from the Former, One-Time, 7th Most Powerful Person in WWE,” that it was long-time top WWE executives Bruce Prichard and Michael Hayes who prepared Stephanie for the role.
He also tells the story of Shane telling Hayes and Prichard that he would ‘legitimately kill’ them if anyone laid their hands on his sister.
He wrote:
“Before she did her first on camera in the stands, Shane pulled Michael and Bruce aside. ‘I just want you two to know, I love you both like family, but if anyone lays a hand on my sister, I will legitimately kill you.’ Just the type of thing you want to hear before leading a famous person into a drunken mob,”
Shane McMahon returned to WWE back in the 2022 Royal Rumble in January, before he was sent home days later after rubbing a lot of people backstage the wrong way due to his booking of the match.
