Matt Hardy Discusses Whether He’ll Retire In WWE Or AEW

AEW star Matt Hardy has opened up about whether or not he plans to eventually return to WWE in order to retire.

Hardy made a name for himself alongside his brother Jeff as one half of the Hardy Boyz, an iconic tag team known for their extreme and high-flying style of wrestling.

The pair famously returned to WWE back at WrestleMania 33, where Matt spent the next three years before leaving in 2020 and heading to AEW.

Jeff remained in WWE for an additional year, before he was controversially released back in December 2021, before joining his brother in AEW earlier this year.

On the latest Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Hardy discussed whether he would ever return to WWE to round out his wrestling career in the company where he became famous.

He said:

“I don’t know. In all honesty, I can see myself retiring with AEW, I love being here. I love the the family feel that it has and I love just the lack of horses**t and bulls**t, you know, it’s pretty much straightforward.

“And Tony is really good with working with people and remembering, you know, they’re human beings, and especially people that have families and like allowing them to take time off and address issues that there may be.

“So he’s great with that, and he works around people’s schedules and whatnot. So I love AEW, and I’m very cool spending the rest of my career at AEW. With that being said, I love WWE as well.

“And I think it’s a big positive that Triple H has taken over and has been in charge. And I would imagine it’s going to continue to change as it evolves over the next few years with him at the helm.”

Hardy signed an extension to his AEW contract earlier this year in order to line up more closely with his brother Jeff, who joined the company in March 2022.
