WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle has stated that he believes WWE ‘dropped the ball’ with current AEW star Claudio Castagnoli.
Claudio was often considered one of WWE’s most underutilised talents during his decade as Cesaro on WWE’s main roster from 2012 up until his departure back in Feburary of 2022.
Claudio made his AEW debut at the Forbidden Door pay-per-view, where he was revealed as the mystery replacement for Bryan Danielson against New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Zack Sabre Jr. He then went on to capture his first world championship, the ROH World Championship, from Jonathan Gresham at the ROH Death Before Dishonor event.
Speaking on his Kurt Angle Show podcast, Angle explained that he thinks WWE dropped the ball with Cesaro during his time in the company, noting that he should have been a five-time world champion in WWE.
He said:
“He [Claudio Castagnoli] should have been a five-time world champion before he left WWE, not once did they give him the world title. I’m really surprised because that kid can do it all in the ring. He is the pound-for-pound strongest wrestler I’ve ever seen. The stuff he does in that ring is incredible … He’s Superman. He’s the real-life Superman.”
Claudio lost his ROH World Championship to Chris Jericho at the AEW Dynamite Grand Slam show in Arthur Ashe Stadium back in September.
