The reason why WWE chose the O2 Arena in London, England to host Money in the Bank 2023 has been revealed.
It was announced earlier this month that on July 1, WWE will return to the UK for this year’s Money in the Bank premium live event.
The announcement came after a lot of uncertainty surrounding the fate of this event series, with the Triple H WWE regime reportedly weighing up the futures of a number of themed premium live events.
Per Fightful Select (subscription required), one WWE source viewed the O2 Arena as the ‘MSG of England’.
WWE notably has a long history of running TV and house show specials at Madison Square Garden in New York, with the company recently visiting the arena in December during the live event Holiday Tour.
Fightful noted that another source believed that running Money in the Bank as a high profile international event helps establish the importance of Money in the Bank as one of WWE’s biggest pay-per-views.
Bagging the O2 Arena was reportedly a collaborative effort within WWE.
The O2 Arena has a capacity of up to 20,000 for shows, meaning that Money in the Bank will have considerably less fans in attendance than Clash At The Castle 2022, which saw 62,000 fans travel to the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.
