Taya Valkyrie has discussed WWE’s name change policy, revealing one name she was almost given before ‘Franky Monet’.
Valkyrie signed with WWE in February 2021, before making her WWE TV debut that April in a vignette introducing Franky Monet.
Speaking with Comedy Store Wrestling, Valkyrie revealed that at one point, there was a pitch for her WWE name to be ‘Paris’.
Commenting on WWE name changes, Valkyrie said:
“I think that it also just goes through phases when it’s okay to keep your name (in WWE). Recently, a bunch of people who were using their real, actual names have to get renamed for example.
“That was a whole thing. So I don’t know. So I just started writing stuff down and I mean, I was almost named ‘Paris’ at one point.”
Valkyrie was let go by WWE that November. She currently holds both the MLW Women’s Featherweight and AAA Reina de Reinas titles.
Following a number of name changes in early 2022, reports revealed that Vince McMahon had informed talent that he didn’t want performers using their real names, or names used prior to signing with WWE.
Vince McMahon announced his retirement that July, but returned to the WWE board of directors earlier this month, ahead of a potential WWE sale.
