Inaugural AEW World Champion Chris Jericho has spoken out about what he thinks it will take for him to consider finally retiring.
Jericho made his debut at the Moose Hall in Ponoka, Alberta, as “Cowboy” Chris Jericho on October 2, 1990.
Since then he has worked for a variety of promotions including ECW, WCW, WWE, and most recently AEW.
Jericho joined AEW at the company’s inception in 2019, defeating Kenny Omega in the company’s first Double Or Nothing pay-per-view-event to become its first world champion.
Now the lion tamer has spoken about what he believes it will take for him to bring his long career to a close, in an interview on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast:
“People say, ‘Well, how much longer are you going to do this?’. I could end tomorrow. I could end five years from now, or who cares? Sting is 63 and still doing great stuff. So who knows, man? To me, as long as you can still compete at a high level — like I have a high standard for myself. If I went out there and two, three, four times in a row I felt like, ‘Oof, I’m starting to f***ing phone this in,’ I would quit.”
