Tonight’s edition of ROH (Ring of Honor) airing on watchROH.com showcased two beautifully brutal matches from the ROH Women’s Division.
Showcasing the bright future for the division, 18-year old Billie Starkz made her Ring of Honor debut taking on Trish Adora in what was ultimately a losing effort.
With both women displaying impressive speed and offense throughout, it was a fun to watch and hard hitting affair that served as a tease for what was yet to come in the main event.
With the battle of dark and light, the powerful Athena took on the typically joyful Willow Nightingale in the first of their battles.
With a little blip in continuity with ROH commentary noting they weren’t sure if Willow had the violent streak in her necessary for Athena (did they see that street fight?!) in the end, Athena would prove to be an overwhelming foe.
In what was ultimately a brutal affair, commentary drew attention to potentially sexist critique that could be forthcoming, drawing parallels between the violent brutality of Athena and Jon Moxley from AEW but with note that the criticism differed.
In the end, Athena would conquer Willow Nightingale to retain her Championship and continue her terrifying reign.
Elsewhere, even the ‘First Lady of Professional Wrestling’, Maria Kanellis-Bennett took center stage in the Kingdom’s backstage segment, featuring her managerial presence as both vital and powerful.
What an exciting time to be a Ring of Honor fan and particularly one who enjoys wrestling matches featuring people who happen to be women!
