For all the “finish the story” build-up that led many to expect a Cody Rhodes victory, Roman Reigns left as the victor at WrestleMania 39.
Rhodes had been the focus of the story leading many fans to believe that he would walk away as the new Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.
Triple H had addressed the criticism of the booking during the post-show press conference, pointing out that “the story never finishes” in WWE.
Dustin Rhodes would react with a single emoji to his brother’s defeat, whilst Brandi tweeted “hard times breed better men” in response.
Sammy Guevara would also Tweet a very simple message that expressed his surprise at the decision.

A representative of WWE dismissed claims that Vince McMahon had booked the ending of the match, noting that the plan was in place “several weeks ago.”
McMahon was backstage at WrestleMania 39 for at least night one in a “supervisory” role and was reportedly “not shy” about giving his input.
