A WWE star has revealed their jealousy over a retirement match that took place at WrestleMania featuring the man that inspired them.
Speaking to the Comedy Store Wrestling podcast, Dolph Ziggler looked back at Kurt Angle’s retirement match from WrestleMania 35 where the Olympic Hero would face Baron Corbin.
Ziggler would explain the source of jealousy and influence of Kurt Angle, saying:
“I was so jealous about that.
“They didn’t tell us who was going to do it ’til a couple weeks out and I was like, ‘man, are they finally going to give me a singles match at WrestleMania and I get to be in the ring with my friggin’ hero Kurt Angle?
“The reason I have a job in wrestling, because I came in at 5’11, 180 lbs is because Kurt Angle was doing so well that they gave me a shot. That’s it. He was so good that I got a tryout.”
He would go on to say that it wasn’t even a matter of winning or losing the match to him and that he was simply jealous about not getting a call for the match.
Ziggler would get his WrestleMania moment a year later, picking up a loss to Otis in an event that would take place with no fans in attendance.
Dolph Ziggler signed with WWE in 2004 and has gone on to be a six-time WWE Intercontinental Champion, two-time World Heavyweight Champion, two-time WWE United States Champion and NXT Champion.
He has also held the WWE SmackDown & Raw Tag Team Championship.
