It sounds like CM Punk might not be the only big surprise set for the debut of the promotion’s new Saturday night show.
The show is expected to debut in Chicago on June 17, likely named AEW Collision based on a recent trademark filing, and will potentially be announced a month earlier at the Warner Media upfront.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the debut episode will play host to CM Punk’s return “along with what is expected to be either another major name debut or return”.
As we’ve already covered, Meltzer reported in terms of big names for the planned brand split between Dynamite and the new show, that Punk, FTR and potentially Chris Jericho, would be the stars of the Saturday show.
For Dynamite, it’s expected that the Elite and the Blackpool Combat Club will be staying on Wednesday nights.
It was recently reported that a meeting took place between Chris Jericho and CM Punk as a pre-cursor to Punk’s AEW return. The meeting was said to have “gone well”, but there are no further details beyond that.
The show will reportedly air 8pm-10pm ET on TNT Saturday nights with the idea of being on the same level as AEW Dynamite.
There will naturally be a lot pre-emptions due to clashes with other sports on the Saturday nights, but that’s the overall plan.
