Scrapped Pitch For Mid-Card WWE Women’s Title Revealed

Another WWE women’s championship, at mid-card level, has been suggested before and, once again, we have a idea that didn’t come to fruition.

Previously, Dana Brooke had revealed an idea to repurpose the WWE 24/7 Championship as the women’s equivalent of the Intercontinental Championship.

Now, Zelina Vega has revealed the plans that she hoped would see fruition.

Speaking to Fox News, Vega was asked about a mid-card belt for the women and reflected on her time as Queen of the Ring, saying:

“And to be fair, I thought that’s kind of what Queen of the Ring could have been. When I won that crown, I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m down to put it on the line.’ Like, we’ll have matches for the crown.

“There were so many ideas that I had for Queen of the Ring. But I think because it was just so new, and it was the first ever, you know, they put me in with Carmella, and it got kind of complicated to try and do all of that at once.

“I do think it would be beneficial definitely to have another title, another opportunity for other girls to win some gold.”

Currently, there are two main roster women’s singles championships held by Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair and SmackDown Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley.

The WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship is held by Raquel Rodriguez and Liv Morgan who are on Raw, but the NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn were also just called up to SmackDown.

The Queen of the Ring crown was won by Zelina Vega in 2021, with The Queen’s Crown Tournament finals taking place at WWE Crown Jewel that year.

Vega challenges Rhea Ripley for the SmackDown Women’s Title at Backlash in Puerto Rico tomorrow night.
