While WWE have made it known that new World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins will defend his title way more frequently than Roman Reigns, not many of us expected that to include NXT as well as on Raw.
Yet, following Tuesday’s NXT and Bron Breakker’s challenge to Rollins, it looks like Rollins will indeed be working overtime going forward.
While it’s cool to see Rollins return to NXT over a decade since becoming the inaugural NXT Champion, some fans have questioned why WWE have chosen to throw a potentially massive future match for the company like Rollins vs Breakker together so haphazardly.
And now it seems we may have our answer – to boost NXT’s ratings at an important time for the company.
According to Dave Meltzer on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE President Nick Khan is intent on using main roster stars on WWE’s developmental program in order to draw viewers in ahead of a potential rights renewal from the USA Network.
Meltzer explained:
“The deal is, this is a Nick Khan thing, bring more main roster stars to NXT every week, boost the ratings, and try to boost your price for a renewal from USA Network because the ratings are higher.
“So that’s the strategy they’re going with and that’s why you’re gonna be seeing more main roster stars.”

The Rollins vs Breakker match has not yet been made official as of this writing, however, don’t expect the fighting champion Rollins to resist the challenge.
If Rollins does appear on NXT he would join other main roster stars such as Baron Corbin, Mustafa Ali and Dana Brooke, with all of those seemingly looking set for longer-term programs on Tuesday nights.
