A new report has revealed an update on WWE Women’s Title situation ahead of the June 9 SmackDown.
As previously reported, WWE announced that Asuka will have a Championship presentation on tonight’s June 9 edition of SmackDown.
In the tweet making the announcement, the company called it the WWE Women’s Championship and not the Raw Women’s Championship.
Fightful Select (subscription required) provided an update, noting that WWE sources indicated that this “wasn’t an accident,” and some clarity to the situation should be provided during tonight’s segment.
The source confirmed that there have long been discussions as to how to simplify the title belts appearing on different brands than they’re assigned to.
The report also notes that the decision to have this happen occurred some time after Ronda Rousey made it clear that she would rather be in the tag team division.
Also set for tonight’s show, there will be four Money In The Bank qualifying matches with Michin vs. Bayley, Shotzi vs. IYO SKY, Butch vs. Baron Corbin and Santos Escobar vs. Mustafa Ali.
