Legendary pop star Cyndi Lauper recently spoke to by WWE’s Kayla Braxton and reflected on her historical influence on WWE’s women’s division.
Lauper’s appearance at the original WrestleMania in 1985 was seen as one of the pivotal moments in solidifying the company as a mainstream giant alongside other famous faces such as Mr T, Muhammad Ali and Liberace.
As well as drawing eyes towards the product, Lauper’s appearance alongside Wendi Richter elevated the status of women’s competition in WWE at a time when female representation in the company wasn’t prevalent.
Speaking ahead of the premiere of her new documentary ‘Let the Canary Sing’, Lauper brought up that she and former WWE Women’s Champion Richter had advocated for women in WWE almost forty years ago.
The eighties pop icon even revealed that she had arguments with the legendary Captain Lou Albano on the matter.
Lauper also reflected on the influence of wrestling on her music, with Albano infamously appearing in the music video for her breakout 1983 hit ‘Girls Just Want to Have Fun’.
