An interesting statistic has emerged on women’s wrestling across TV and pay-per-view events for WWE, AEW and IMPACT.
While the representation of women wrestling has been a hot topic for some time, conversations have gotten louder over the past few months, after a ‘book the women’s division better’ fan sign made it to AEW TV.
Fans of both WWE and AEW have called for their respective promotions to give women’s wrestling a more prominent spotlight.
Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics has now shared percentage figures showing how many women’s matches have aired over the past six months.
WWE NXT topped the list, with 35% of TV matches being solely women’s matches. WWE Premium Live Events produced a figure of 32%.
SmackDown and Raw produced similar percentages, with 27% and 28% respectively.
While 26% of AEW Rampage matches were women’s division bouts, most of AEW’s other shows were featured towards the bottom of the list, with only 15% of AEW pay-per-view matches over the last six months contested in the women’s division.
You can view the chart below.
WWE has recently been revamping its women’s divisions, with the likes of Nia Jax and Kairi Sane rejoining the company.
While former AEW TBS Champion Jade Cargill has also signed with WWE, she has yet to have a match.
Cargill has now commented on the lack of wrestling in her current run, which you can read more about right here.
