AEW’s 2023 has now come to a close in a way that few perhaps saw coming, particularly inside the Nassau Coliseum at Worlds End on December 30.
After reigning as World Champion for 406 days, MJF saw his world crumble before him as he lost both his beloved Triple B to Samoa Joe, but also his only true friend Adam Cole; who revealed himself as The Devil after months of speculation.
With MJF set to take a decent chunk of time off according to reports, our new AEW World Champion will need himself a new challenger, with many new faces expected to step up.
This new chapter presents an exciting opportunity for AEW to introduce some fresh blood into the main event scene as well as re-introduce a few names that have been away from the title fold for a while.
With that said let’s take a look at the seven best challengers for Samoa Joe’s AEW Championship reign.
7. Miro
In what looks to be Andrade El Idolo’s AEW farewell match, Miro wrapped up his unbeaten 2023 in style by getting a big win at Worlds End, while also seemingly re-aligning with his wife CJ Perry.
Although much has been made of Miro’s happiness in AEW, he is reportedly tied in to several more years on his existing contract.
So, considering that I and many others would surely like to see Tony Khan find a way to push The Redeemer past the mid card for the first time since he got to the company.
Miro vs Joe would be a fresh main event program and first-ever match in AEW. But most importantly it would be a clash of MEAT that very few fans would pass up the opportunity to see.
I’d say it’s far more likely Miro moves on to another Collision feud of some description, but hopefully if not now, we do eventually see the Bulgarian ascend higher up the card at some point in 2024.
