A new report has revealed what the newly announced WWE Raw to Netflix deal, which was confirmed earlier today, means for AEW.
On January 23, WWE announced that Monday Night Raw will be moving to Netflix starting in January 2025. The deal for the move is worth $5 billion over 10 years. This is a massive deal for WWE and could largely affect professional wrestling’s value on TV and streaming in the future.
Prior to this announcement, there were various rumors and reports indicating that WWE had been in talks with AEW’s broadcast partner, Warner Bros. Discovery to bring WWE Raw to one of their networks.
According to Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer, the one way this deal affects All Elite Wrestling is that it ends any concern over WBD choosing WWE over them. He said:
“The one thing from an AEW standpoint is there will be no WWE on WBD, 100% no it’s not going to happen.”
“And that was a big concern across the board because if they made the deal that could very negatively affect AEW unless AEW was able to get a deal somewhere else.”
On whether the WWE deal increases pro wrestling’s value overall, Meltzer said:
“If the gap between the two companies was closer it absolutely would benefit AEW but it’s not really that close right now. So I don’t know if it helps, it doesn’t hurt.”
“The real thing for AEW is WBD’s dealings with the NBA, if WBD gets fewer NBA games at a similar price or at a higher price all that will impact the amount of money they have and the amount of time and the value of AEW.”
“Less NBA AEW becomes more valuable, if they lose NBA that would hurt TNT badly and the value of AEW would be up.”
WWE President Nick Khan has explained why WWE Raw is moving to Netflix in this deal, which you can read at this link.
