AEW TNT Champion Adam Copeland has opened up on his rivalry with his real-life best friend Christian Cage in the company.
When the WWE Hall of Famer joined AEW back at WrestleDream in October, he immediately kickstarted a feud with his best friend Christian Cage for the TNT Championship.
Copeland captured the title at AEW Worlds End, before Christian immediately used Killswitch’s title opportunity earned earlier in the night to recapture the title within minutes.
The rivalry ended in an I Quit match in both men’s hometown of Toronto on the March 20 episode of Dynamite, with Copeland making Christian say ‘I Quit’ to end the rivalry and become a two-time TNT Champion.
Speaking with Vancolour, Copeland opened up on their rivalry, noting that it was ‘everything he hoped it would be’.
He said:
“We had to tell that story that we both knew we could but never –- as performers, we weren’t in the right place where we had the opportunity to tell that story before. It was everything I hoped it would be and then some.”
Copeland has since entered a rivalry with the House of Black, with him set to team with Eddie Kingston and Mark Briscoe to face all three men at AEW Dynasty.
