10 Reasons to Watch Impact Wrestling

9. Fresh Match-Ups

I was a big fan of TNA during its glory days. AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Beer Money, Motor City Machine Guns, Christopher Daniels, Kurt Angle, Frankie Kazarian, and Austin Aries were some of the stalwarts of TNA during it’s Spike TV era.  Daniels and Styles had unbelievable matches in TNA. Beer Money and the Motor City Machine Guns had a great series of matches. When you look back through history though, TNA never seemed to be able to create that next batch of guys. They seemed to repeat the mistakes of WCW‘s past.

Instead of bringing in young talent to develop for fresh rivalries, they turned to WWE guys who were more often than not released for having issues WWE didn’t want to deal with. These guys were thrust into the main event scene at what was often seen at the harm of the TNA originals. I would argue the real area that suffered was talent development. No-one ever became the next crop of TNA guys.

Under the new regime, Impact Wrestling is working on developing a new crop of talent while blending in some familiar faces. The current roster is an interesting mix of talent. Impact has some former WWE developmental guys who weren’t quite ready or fleshed out their character. The roster also has a few veterans out to prove they deserved better in other promotions and have what it takes to be the guy. We are also seeing international talent who haven’t had the mainstream spotlight just yet. This blend of talent is giving us fresh match-ups that haven’t been seen on mainstream TV just yet.

Just look at the Slammiversary card:

  • Fenix vs Petey Williams vs Ishimori vs Johnny Impact
  • Tessa Blanchard vs Allie
  • Brian Cage vs Matt Sydal
  • Su Yung vs Madison Rayne
  • LAX vs. The OGz
  • Pentagon Jr. vs Sami Callihan
  • Moose vs. Austin Aries.

These are not match-ups that you’ve seen or, at least not on national television. They still have a number of talented guys and gals who didn’t make the card at Slammiversary. Wrestlers like Eli Drake, DJZ, Trevor Lee, Desmond Xavier, Killer Kross, Rich Swann, Scarlett Bordeaux, Kierra Hogan, and Joe Hendry. Impact has the opportunity to create fresh stars and match-ups for years to come. Throw in a few rumored additions and you might just see the next set of “Impact” guys and girls who everyone is talking about.

(PS.  If you haven’t watched Slammiversary, it’s worth the time to seek out those matches.)
