9. Ron Simmons – Gladiator Faarooq
And speaking of the Acolytes, Ron Simmons is one of the most enduring characters in WWE history, being brought out at the end of almost every skit at WrestleMania to basically look at some goofy wrestling shit and say Damn.
Of course, he’s also the first African American to win a major world title in the US, pinning Vader for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. You wouldn’t know that from the way WWE would introduce the 2012 Hall of Famer to their audience though, when Faarooq Asad turned up looking like if Magneto became a cheerleader. The former world champion, one of the legit toughest guys in the history of the business and WWE creative debuted him on TV as a mixture of sub zero, a roman centurion and a chocolate caramel brown quality street.
The gimmick lasted all of 4 months and hell, if nothing else, how terrible it was certain gave Farooq something to be angry about when he formed the Nation of Domination.
