10 Wrestlers Who Could Be The First AEW World Champion

8.  Marty Scurll

Odds: 200/1

“The Villain” Marty Scurll’s contract with Ring of Honor is up sometime in 2019.  There were some reports earlier in the year stating it was up at the end of April.  However, others, including Dave Meltzer, have reported it doesn’t conclude until the fall of 2019.  If he was out of his contract in time to debut on AEW’s regular television show, then Marty could have an outside shot at being the first AEW World Champion.

It could be a smart move to put the title on Scurll.  Even while not officially being associated with The Elite, Marty is still one of the most over wrestlers in the world today.  Recently at the Crocket Cup, his line was by far the longest at the meet and greet and his t-shirts were the clear favorites amongst the fans in attendance. It is clear just how over he is.  Of course, to be the first champ, he’ll have to sign with the company first.
