10 WWE Alternate History Outcomes And Consequences

2. Women’s Evolution Occurs 10 Years Earlier

Although its roots can be traced back a ways, official WWE lore links the Women’s Evolution with the arrival of the Four Horsewomen (Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks, and Bayley), and the retirement of the Diva’s Championship.

What if WWE decided it wanted to appeal to young women sooner? What if they simply wanted to catch up to promotions like TNA, who featured wrestling in their Knockouts Division, or with Japan, who can boast all-female promotions?

This would have put the renaissance at about 2005-2007-ish. The condemnation of gravy matches and the like would have occurred amid the Ruthless Aggression Era. Designs for the Diva’s butterfly championship would have never been drawn up.

The ‘WWE Diva Search’ would have only lasted a short time, ending before The Bellas or Maryse were discovered. Since they began their careers on the modeling/acting side of things, it is doubtful WWE would have attracted them to the company. Considering her work in ROH and TNA, it is likely that we would have still seen the likes of Maria Kanellis, and many others, during this incarnation of the Women’s Evolution.

A strong Women’s Division would have helped WWE through its disappointing PG years, and brought the company up to speed with women’s wrestling at the time.

10 years ago, it’s easy to see a match between Mickie James and Trish Stratus becoming the first women’s PPV main event for WWE. Considering it was the pay-per-view era, both wrestlers would be remembered as far bigger stars as a result.
