10 WWE Matches We Need To See In 2021

With the arrival of 2021, we are already thinking about possible dream encounters we could see this year. Here are 10 WWE matches that need to happen before we reach 2022.

10. The Undisputed Era vs. The New Day

The Undisputed Era have conquered NXT. After holding ‘all the gold’ and competing in every match type imaginable, there isn’t much to achieve on the Gold Brand that the stable hasn’t already achieved.

If Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong want a new challenge, invading Raw or SmackDown would definitely leave an impact. One team who would be great facing off against NXT’s fiercest faction would be The New Day.

With Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods holding tag team gold together 10 times, The New Day are the measuring stick of tandem wrestling in WWE. These gutsy performers are one of WWE’s most popular acts, meaning The Undisputed Era would make a statement with a match against them.

With both teams wanting to be known as the best in the business, there’s no doubt that this contest would be a battle from bell to bell.

9. Johnny Gargano vs. Ilja Dragunov

Johnny Gargano is one of the biggest names wrestling in NXT today. In 2020, The current NXT North American Champion defeated the likes of Damien Priest and Roderick Strong to assert his dominance. Now siding with Candice LeRae, Indi Hartwell and Austin Theory, Johnny Wrestling seems almost unstoppable.

Ilja Dragunov has also had an eventful 2020, in NXT UK. A year that started with a match against Finn Bálor and ended with a war against WALTER, the Russian competitor has proven that he’s got the heart of a lion. No matter who he stands across the ring from, Dragunov doesn’t slow until the final bell.

If travel restrictions relax, it would be fun to watch Ilja battle his way through NXT’s stateside roster. Gargano and Dragunov are both technical wrestling geniuses, so a contest between these two warriors would be unique.

A deviation from NXT’s usual style, this possible match would remind the world that Dragunov is ‘Unbesiegbar’.

 8. AJ Styles vs. Edge

Shortly after Edge’s emotional 2020 Royal Rumble entrance, AJ Styles was injured after receiving one of the Rated R Superstar’s spears. Because of this unfortunate event, Styles and Edge, two of WWE’s most popular athletes, have not had the opportunity to have another in-ring interaction.

AJ Styles is eager to stand across the ring from the Rated R Superstar, noting that he’d love a match against Edge to get his revenge. A gifted competitor with a vicious streak, Styles has a lot in common with the Ultimate Opportunist.

With career-defining rivalries with The Undertaker and WWE Championship reigns in their past, AJ and Edge are a lot more similar than a first glance would have you believe.

With both men close to the ends of their careers, a bout like this would be crucial to how both stars would be remembered. Legacy on the line, neither man would be willing to let this opportunity slip away.
