12 Most Bizarre Matches From WWE Extreme Rules

6. Beth Phoenix vs. Michelle McCool – Extreme Rules 2010

WWE was in the thick of their Divas era at Extreme Rules 2010. While Beth Phoenix was a very capable performer, she was stuck having an “Extreme Makeover Match” with Michelle McCool.

The match was a fairly standard weapons-filled WWE match, except they used things like an ironing board and hairspray cans. Because they are women, you see.

This was essentially the Good Housekeeping match Chyna and Jeff Jarrett had in 1999 except this was 2010 and we should probably have been past this by this point.

5. Santina Marella vs. Vickie Guerrero & Chavo Guerrero – Extreme Rules 2009

On one hand this involved comedy characters like Santino(a) and Vickie Guerrero. On the other hand, it was one of the worst things WWE has put on pay-per-view.

At Extreme Rules 2009, Santino (Santina? I don’t know) challenged Vickie to a Hogpen match. Vickie added her nephew Chavo to the match, I guess to give Santino someone to wrestle? And the horror ensued.

It was minutes of people slipping around in slop and throwing buckets of filth at each other as Vickie screamed.

Santino won, regaining the Miss WrestleMania sash, before the Santina character was written of TV the next day with the sash along with it. An utter waste of time.

4. Dean Ambrose vs. Chris Jericho – Extreme Rules 2016

Chris Jericho will defend this match with his every breath, but he is not fooling us. The Asylum match at Extreme Rules 2016 probably could have been good, but boy it sure wasn’t.

Jericho and Dean Ambrose did battle in this weapons-filled cage match, but for some reason, the match was played for comedy. This feud which had had serious matches, was decided by loads of dumb prop comedy.

Jericho would grab a weapon, Ambrose would grab a potted plant. Jericho would grab a weapon, Ambrose would grab nunchucks. It was impossible to get invested in.

Then to make matters worse, this was a rare WWE match that involved thumbtacks.

I could go into a tirade about how badly they misused the thumbtacks in this match but for the sake of time, I will say that doing a thumbtack spot in a comedy match is probably the worst time to do them.
