In September 2025, AJ Lee made her return to WWE for the first time in over a decade. Since then, Lee has recemented herself back into the fold for WWE.

At WrestleMania 42 might one, Lee lost the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship to Becky Lynch.

Lee coming back could lead to a number of possibilities in the form of who can stand across the ring from the WWE legend.

Here are eight potential AJ Lee return opponents.

8. Asuka

WWE star Asuka

Asuka had something of a farewell match against IYO SKY at WWE Backlash

When looking at the WWE roster, there are several names that could be considered first ballot Hall of Famers.

Asuka would be at the top of the list of legendary stars in WWE right now and could be utilized against AJ Lee.

At WWE Backlash 2026, IYO SKY defeated Asuka. Post match, ‘The Empress of Tomorrow’ hugged and embraced SKY.

With her current absence from WWE TV, Asuka could make a return to square off with AJ Lee in a battle of two iconic stars who have raised the prestige and importance of women’s wrestling in the company.

7. Lyra Valkyria

Lyra Valkyria is now a heel after turning on Bayley

On the June 22 episode of Monday Night Raw, Paige and Brie Bella defeated Bayley and Lyra Valkyria to retain the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.

After the bout, Valkyria betrayed and attacked Bayley in a vicious assault on her former friend.

The former WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion seems to want to embrace the dark side for the first time in her run with the company.

Valkyria wanting to make her name off of AJ Lee’s legend would make sense and lead to an inevitable clash of generations.

6. Tiffany Stratton

Tiffany Stratton won the Women’s United States Championship from Giulia in April 2026

Since getting called up to the WWE main roster in 2024, Tiffany Stratton has established herself as one of the top talents in the women’s division.

On the April 24 WWE SmackDown after WrestleMania 42, Stratton defeated Giulia to become the new WWE Women’s United States Championship.

During this second run in the company, AJ Lee has yet to come across Stratton, but with her husband CM Punk potentially heading to SmackDown, it could lead to the legend becoming part of the women’s scene on the blue brand.

Lee returning to challenge Stratton for the Women’s US Title would be an intriguing clash of the generations in a major way.

5. Alexa Bliss

Despite first making their names in WWE back in the 2010s, AJ Lee has never faced Alexa Bliss in her career.

While Lee rose the ranks and became a superstar in the early 2010s, it was in the mid-to-late stages of that same decade that Bliss started to become one of the biggest female stars in the company.

Now in 2026, Bliss is one of the most decorated stars regardless of gender on the WWE roster today.

Upon making her comeback, Lee could face off with an established name in the WWE women’s division like Bliss in what would be a fresh, new matchup.

4. Charlotte Flair

AJ Lee retired from in-ring competition in April 2015 and stayed away from the business for a decade.

Considering her abrupt retirement, Lee was not able to step inside the squared circle with huge names from the WWE women’s division, such as Charlotte Flair.

In Lee’s absence, Flair had a meteoric rise that saw her become the most decorated female talent to ever step foot in a WWE ring.

The 14-time WWE Women’s Champion facing off with a pioneer like AJ Lee would make for an interesting bout that would pit their legacies against one another.

3. Liv Morgan

At WWE WrestleMania 42 night one, Liv Morgan defeated Stephanie Vaquer to win the WWE Women’s World Championship.

Morgan has emerged as one of the biggest female stars in WWE today and usually garners a big reaction whenever she appears.

Considering her background being from New Jersey, Morgan has drawn a ton of comparisons to AJ Lee throughout her career.

Now that she has risen to the top of WWE, Morgan would make for a formidable test for Lee upon her return and could make for a compelling title bout down the line.

2. Paige

During her first run with WWE, AJ Lee had a few notable rivals, including Paige.

At WrestleMania 42 night one, Paige made her return to the company to team with Brie Bella to defeat The Irresistible Forces, Bayley & Lyra Valkyria and Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss to win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.

With Paige now back into the fold, it should open the door for her to rekindle the rivalry with Lee sometime soon.

Lee battling Paige would be a nice callback to the Divas era in WWE and see if they can live up to their previous meetings back in the 2010s.

1. Roxanne Perez

Since making her pro wrestling debut, Roxanne Perez has made it no secret that she was inspired to become a wrestler from watching AJ Lee.

After meeting Lee, Perez started to call the former WWE Divas Champion her “pro wrestling mother.”

This has led to many fans wondering when they will see Lee step inside the squared circle with a star that she has so heavily inspired.

Lee returning could lead to a showdown with Perez that feels years in the making and could be the perfect passing of the torch moment for “The Prodigy.”
