Change To WWE WarGames Format This Year With Roman Reigns & More At Survivor Series

We’re starting to get closer to this year’s WWE Survivor Series event which is confirmed once again to host the WarGames matches.

There’s an entirely separate argument to be had about whether WWE should be persisting with the annual WarGames matches – and the answer is no – but they’ll be happening this year, so it’s time to look ahead.

Roman Reigns is confirmed for Survivor Series which most likely means he’ll be part of WarGames again this year. It’s quietly become something of a speciality as he’s been involved in the 2022, 2024 and 2025 editions.

However, with the way things are starting to take shape on WWE Raw, we could be seeing a change to how the WarGames matches are formatted this time around.

For the past four years since the introduction of WarGames to the main roster at Survivor Series, the matches have all been two teams of five against each other.

The format was similar most years in NXT, though it was four team members instead of five… with the exception of the very first year.

In 2017, WWE introduced TakeOver WarGames with a three-way match between teams of three, as Undisputed Era’s Adam Cole, Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly defeated SAnitY’s Eric Young, Killian Dain and Alexander Wolfe, as well as the team of Roderick Strong and the Authors of Pain.

It appears, this year, WWE might shake things up by going back to something similar to that 2017 version of the match.

The top storyline on Raw recently has been The Bloodline and their battle against Solo Sikoa and LA Knight, with Sikoa having recently decided to side with Knight instead of re-joining The Bloodline with his brothers and cousins.

This story got a new chapter last week, when Royce Keys and OTM – collectively known as 946, the Oakland, California zip code – showed up and laid out men from both sides, which they did again this past Monday.

There’s still plenty of time before we get to WWE Survivor Series in late November, but it appears things could be shaping up to form a three-way WarGames match with teams of three, just like 2017.

Those teams would seem to be 1) 946, 2) The Bloodline, and 3) LA Knight, Solo Sikoa & a third man.

There are a couple of directions that could go. If The Bloodline team is Roman Reigns and The Usos, we could see Jacob Fatu join up with Knight and Sikoa – after all, there has been some tension between Reigns and Fatu lately.

Seth Rollins is another option off the back of his SummerSlam main event against Reigns, though it appears his issues with Reigns are finished as Reigns did give Rollins a fair one-on-one match and they ended SummerSlam on good terms.

Penta could be an option to team with Knight and Sikoa too if he ends up getting screwed by The Bloodline when he challenges Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship in Mexico City.

Another possibility would be a returning Drew McIntyre who has a long history with The Bloodline, as well as a complicated history with Sikoa and Knight as well.

All things considered though, a babyface Fatu may be the best bet.

So, at WWE Survivor Series 2026 in Houston, could we be looking at Roman Reigns & The Usos vs Royce Keys & OTM vs Jacob Fatu, LA Knight & Solo Sikoa?

There’s definitely time for things to change course, but it would at least be one way to spruce up the WarGames concept that many fans are starting to get tired of by this point.
