Four things Rey Mysterio must do before retiring from WWE

After suffering a beatdown at the hands of Omos at AAA TripleMania, fans were concerned about lucha and WWE legend Rey Mysterio’s future.

Recently clarifying that he had no firm retirement timeline and was rather planning to wing it, Rey Mysterio still has several major moments left to make before hanging up his boots.

Here are four things that Rey Mysterio must still do before retiring from WWE.

4. Have one more WrestleMania singles match

With a legendary career full of WrestleMania moments that stand out, Rey Mysterio deserves to have one more singles match at a WrestleMania event.

Previously in singles action on the grandest stage of them all against the likes of CM Punk and Cody Rhodes, his most recent singles bout was against Dominik Mysterio at WrestleMania 39 in 2023.

While he could certainly eventually face off one-on-one against Dom again, an even more intriguing swan song for Mysterio in WrestleMania singles action could be a storyline truly centering him as the hero.

Conquering whomever, Mysterio certainly needs to have another major WrestleMania moment before retiring.

3. Wrestle with both of his children

While fans are already familiar with the entire Mysterio family from on-screen appearances, some may not realize that Rey’s daughter Aalyah is headed for in-ring competition as well.

With Aalyah having begun training with NXT, Rey has talked about wanting to eventually share the ring with both Dominik and Aalyah.

Potentially the perfect career milestone before retirement, Rey could definitely join forces with Aalyah to take on Dirty Dom and Liv Morgan before retirement.

2. Pass his mask to the next generation

Although the passing of the mask could be largely symbolic rather than literal, there should still be a landmark moment bolstering the next generation ahead of Rey Mysterio’s retirement.

While presumably it could be Dominik Mysterio who ends up besting Rey in his final match to capture his mask in the process, there are other options.

Cementing his legacy as a mentor in professional wrestling with a career that far extends his work in just WWE, Mysterio has already been transitioning towards a new role.

Appearing on-screen as AAA General Manager, Mysterio has a built-in storyline as he elevates an entire crop of younger luchadores and helps establish the next generation – much to Dirty Dom’s chagrin.

1. Bring back his original theme song

Of all the WWE superstars that have used various theme songs through their career, Rey Mysterio has some signature songs.

When Rey Mysterio debuted in WWE in July 2002, his entrance theme was notably “619” composed by Jim Johnston featuring the classic lyric “Who’s that jumpin’ out the sky,” however, he would move on to a new theme.

Later debuting a first version of “Booyaka” in 2005, it would go on to switch again to the P.O.D. version that has remained his staple theme since 2006.

Bringing back the vintage sound for at least one nostalgic run, Rey Mysterio should definitely use his throwback theme before retiring.
