Rey Mysterio has recalled Triple H telling him about his WWE Hall of Fame induction back in 2023 whilst still an active member of the company’s roster.

Throughout the history of the WWE Hall of Fame, inductees have, more often than not, been retired at the time of their induction even if they end up returning to the ring at a later date such as: Edge (Adam Copeland) & Sting.

In 2023 however, all predisposed expectations of who can find themselves inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame were thrown out the window when Rey Mysterio was announced as the headliner for that year’s class.

Mysterio was, and still is an active member of the roster, and at the time of WrestleMania 39 season, was embroiled in a bitter family feud with his son Dominik Mysterio.

So, how did his WWE Hall of Fame induction in 2023 come about? That’s the question The Undertaker asked Rey during their sit down for the latest episode of Taker’s Six Feet Under podcast.

Recalling his initial conversation with Triple H regarding his induction, Mysterio revealed that for WWE, it was “perfect timing” to put him in the Hall of Fame given his feud with his son:

“I would love to ask that person the same question because (when it) was brought up, the opportunity to enter the Hall of Fame, I was like ‘Wait a minute.’ It was Hunter I believe told me, I said, ‘Hunter bro, I’m not ready to retire, I wanna keep going.’ He went, ‘No no no, we’re not asking you to retire we just think it’s probably the best time to put you in the Hall of Fame.’

“This was right when I faced Dom in LA at WrestleMania, so for them it felt like the perfect timing. So I said ‘Yeah, lets do it, if you feel it’s the right timing lets go.’ And little did I know I would be the only active Hall of Famer on the roster that’s still going.”

Dominik Mysterio famously caused a scene during his father’s WWE Hall of Fame induction (see below), when he, along with Judgment Day stablemates Rhea Ripley and Damian Priest walked out midway through Rey’s speech.

Rey would get the last laugh however, as he defeated his son one night later in their first one-on-one encounter.

Commenting on the surreal nature of being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame and then defeating his son at WrestleMania 24 hours later, Rey said:

“You can’t plan these things out, the evolution of this sport is so amazing and I truly feel so blessed for all these opportunities that have landed on my lap that I’ve taken advantage of, I hope that I have.

“When I say taken advantage of, meaning that the fans have received them very well as I have. This is the big pay off when you get to talk about moments like this because we’re always on the go so we forget about a lot of things. We just don’t have time to digest them, but moments like these make you reminisce and bring you back to those good thoughts and historical moments.”
