3. Super Show-Down – WWE Championship – AJ Styles (c) vs. Samoa Joe
I’ve heard plenty of complaints about this one. Mostly that Joe should have walked away with the gold. WWE is in it for the long haul with Styles, however, so another mountain to conquer was the way it should have always gone.
As always, the two put on a fantastic bout – as if they could do anything less – that really played with the stipulation well. It kicked off with fury but without weapons. It wasn’t until later into the match that a chair was finally brought into the mix which did well to up the ante.
Many no-DQ matches peak too early and struggle to sustain themselves for an extended period. Having this one gradually become more dangerous and more aggressive kept the audience invested and had them in it to the very end.
