WWE Sunday Night’s Main Event saw the United States Championship once again in the hands of Trick Williams.

Baron Corbin went into Sunday Night’s Main Event as United States Champion, challenging the rapper Lil Yachty to a match with a five-minute stipulation that would determine the title defense later that evening.

With Yachty able to survive five minutes in the ring with Corbin, Trick Williams would earn his rematch for the United States Champion, recapturing the title that he lost at SummerSlam.

Kicking off his second reign as United States Champion, Trick Williams will no doubt have a target on his back as he returns to SmackDown this Friday.

Lil Yachty

For a debut in-ring performance, Lil Yachty survived five minutes against Baron Corbin and it’d be a surprise if that was the last fans saw of the rapper.

Perhaps the star will have his second match on SmackDown, facing off against the new champion as a reward for showing his quality at Sunday Night’s Main Event. Williams would be unlikely to lose that encounter, although stranger things have happened, and could raise his friend’s hand in a show of respect post-match.

Baron Corbin

A two-time United States Champion, it wouldn’t be unusual for Baron Corbin to seek a rematch for the championship that he’s just lost, but there are perhaps better ways to use the veteran star than locking him into this feud.

In a recent interview with The Sportster, Corbin revealed that he had signed a “good multi-year deal” with WWE, and suggested that a world championship could be in his future.

Kit Wilson

The alliance with The Miz may not have gone the way the pair wanted on last week’s SmackDown, with a loss to Bukasai (Shinsuke Nakamura & Kyoki), but it’s a partnership that still has legs.

A former NXT Tag Team Champion (with Elton Prince, who has been sidelined through injury) Prince has yet to hold a main roster title, while The Miz is a former two-time WWE United States Champion in a Grand Slam career.

The idea of The Miz shaping Wilson to become the best that he can be through a feud with Williams would play into the strong points of both young stars. And, then there’s the likelihood that The Miz would covet what Wilson has, leading to their eventual breakup and a feud of their own.

Ricky Saints

Ricky Saints has history with Trick Williams, challenging him in a losing effort for the United States Championship at Night of Champions in June of this year.

A rivalry that started in NXT, it would be worth revisiting as the stars continue to grow on the main roster. For Saints, that first main roster championship win can’t be far off, with the former NXT Champion pretty much made to hold gold.

Williams and Saint have the makings of top stars, and they would be able to deliver show-stealing moments on SmackDown building to an eventual PLE challenge.

A Step Up To The Top Title

Very much like the Intercontinental Championship, the United States Championship serves as a stepping stone to a top title in WWE, with SmackDown being the home of the Undisputed WWE Champion and currently in the hands of CM Punk.

Williams will likely eventually move up to a feud for the Undisputed WWE Championship, but that’s a crowded environment, with Sami Zayn set to challenge for the title on this week’s SmackDown in Mexico City.
