Predicting The WrestleMania 35 Match Card

Pre-Show | Buddy Murphy vs. Humberto Carrillo | Cruiserweight Championship

Winner- Buddy Murphy to retain the Cruiserweight Championship

Perhaps I am in the minority here, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I am, but I truly believe that the best showcase the cruiserweights can get come WrestleMania is on the kickoff show.

To emphasise this point I ask you to remember back to SummerSlam 2017. At the show, The Usos and The New Day faced off for the Smackdown Tag Team titles on the kickoff show. They were allowed to have a nearly 20-minute match that got the crowd hot and impressed a lot of people. If they were to have been showcased on the already crowded main card, their match would likely have been cut in half and would have been less impressive.

The cruiserweights should be given 15-20 minutes to go out there and have an inevitably great match, and as evidenced at the Royal Rumble, they will get the crowd hot and pumped for the night’s action that is to come.

That takes me onto the participants. I fully expect Buddy Murphy to hold on to his championship between now and WrestleMania. He has been a great representative for the brand as champion and has put on impressive title defences whenever his services have been called upon.

His challenger: Humberto Carrillo. The former Ultimo Ninja has already progressed from NXT to 205 Live, and I believe his ascent will continue as he faces Murphy for the title at the show of shows.

WWE are clearly high on Carrillo, with the luchador being showcased in the WWE Worlds Collide Tournament on Royal Rumble weekend, losing out to eventual winner Velveteen Dream in the quarterfinals.

The Mexican has huge potential at just 23 years old and is likely to be prominently featured on the brand for years to come. An impressive showcase match against Murphy where he comes up just short would do wonders for his career in introducing him to the main stream WWE fans. His time with the title will come, it is just not that time right now.
