On June 4, Sheamus started to tease his in-ring return after undergoing shoulder surgery in 2025.
Despite a nasty gym accident, it looks like “The Celtic Warrior” is on his way back to the squared circle.
Whether it be an old rivalry coming back or looking to become a champion again, Sheamus has plenty of ways to get back in the mix of WWE again.
Here are seven potential Sheamus WWE return plans.
7. Feuding with The Judgment Day

Sheamus and Rey Mysterio were John Cena’s tag team partners in a six-man tag team match against the Judgment Day on Cena’s final Raw
On the November 17, 2025 edition of Monday Night Raw, Sheamus teamed with Rey Mysterio and John Cena to defeat The Judgment Day’s Dominik Mysterio, Finn Balor and JD McDonagh.
While the injury that put him on the sidelines did not come from this match in particular, Sheamus could once again find himself feuding with The Judgment Day upon his return.
Prior to his injury hiatus, Sheamus suffered a loss to McDonagh that can be classified as one of the biggest upsets of JD’s career.
Coming back to a prominent spot on the roster, Sheamus can try to feud with The Judgment Day members and look to be the one to take the group down once and for all.
6. Accepting an Oba Femi Open Challenge

Oba Femi picked up wins over Otis and Los Garza during his open challenges before he was laid out by the returning Brock Lesnar
At WWE WrestleMania 42 Night Two, Oba Femi defeated Brock Lesnar in the biggest win of his career.
Following this victory, “The Ruler” introduced his own Open Challenge to give some stars the opportunity to take down one of the hottest stars on the WWE roster right now.
While Brock Lesnar made his return to go on to defeat his rival at WWE Clash In Italy 2026, Femi could once again bring back the Open Challenge after his run in the King of the Ring.
This could open the door for Sheamus to make his return to give Femi one of the toughest tests of his entire career.
5. New tag team with Finn Balor

Finn Balor is now flying solo without the Judgment Day after his move to the WWE SmackDown roster
One of Sheamus’ close friends on the WWE roster right now is Finn Balor.
Recently, WWE sent Balor from Monday Night Raw to Friday Night SmackDown after completing his feud with The Judgment Day.
Looking to elevate the SmackDown tag team division, Balor could form a new duo with “The Celtic Warrior.”
Becoming a duo of Irish wrestling legends, Sheamus and Balor could add a great deal bringing their experiences as tag team champions together into a new tandem.
4. Reunion with Drew McIntyre

Sheamus and Drew McIntyre teamed together as the ‘Banger Bros’ back in 2022 and 2023
Speaking of tag teams, Sheamus had another impressive pairing with Drew McIntyre several years ago.
While Sheamus has been sidelined following shoulder surgery, McIntyre hasn’t been seen on WWE TV since losing to Jacob Fatu in an Unsanctioned Match at WrestleMania 42.
Needing a new path to pursue on the company’s programming, fans could see McIntyre call upon “The Celtic Warrior” to reunite within the tag team scene.
Sheamus and McIntyre could truly be the best tag team in all of WWE and finally win championship gold before long.
3. Rekindle rivalry with GUNTHER

Sheamus and Gunther have had a number of clashes with each other on the WWE main roster, most notably their instant classic at Clash In The Castle 2022
Back in 2022, Sheamus looked to finally win the WWE Intercontinental Championship by challenging GUNTHER for the gold in what was one of the best matches of the year at Clash At The Castle.
Over the years, Sheamus and GUNTHER have gone at it in some of the most physical encounters in the company.
Now, “The Ring General” finds himself on Friday Night SmackDown where he is looking to become a world champion again.
However, Sheamus can make his return and try to rekindle his rivalry with GUNTHER, looking to finally defeat one of his greatest opponents.
2. Challenging for the Undisputed WWE Championship

Cody Rhodes defeated Drew McIntyre back in March to begin his third reign as Undisputed WWE Champion
Speaking of GUNTHER, “The Ring General” is the current number one contender for Cody Rhodes’ Undisputed WWE Championship.
While Rhodes and GUNTHER are scheduled to face one another for the title on the June 19 Friday Night SmackDown, there could be another challenger waiting in the wings.
Looking to win a world title for the first time in over a decade, “The Celtic Warrior” could immediately insert himself back in the main event picture.
Sheamus challenging the winner of Rhodes vs. GUNTHER would certainly be interesting and see him try to become Undisputed WWE Champion upon his return.
1. Going after Penta’s WWE Intercontinental Championship

Penta has become one of the most successful champions in recent WWE memory, recently defending the title against Rey Mysterio on WWE Raw
Over the past few years, Sheamus’ main story has been about him trying to become a Grand Slam Champion by winning the Intercontinental Title.
Currently, Penta is the WWE Intercontinental Champion and has impressed with some of his successful title defenses.
Sheamus making his return to immediately go after the IC Title would make a ton of sense with his pursuit of this elusive gold.
In what would be a hard hitting and intense battle, Sheamus challenging Penta would make for a potential showstealer and see if “The Celtic Warrior” can finally capture the IC gold for the first time in his career.
