The 10 Best AEW Matches Of 2021

3. Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D. vs. Thunder Rosa – AEW Dynamite: St. Patrick’s Day Slam

Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D. became a revelation for AEW in 2020, but this year saw her reach superstardom, in large part down to this match.

At the end of 2020, Baker drew the ire of Thunder Rosa, costing her the NWA Women’s World Championship. The two ladies faced for the first time at AEW Dynamite: Beach Break with Baker winning.

To up the ante and finally settle this issue, Tony Khan announced a rematch between the two women in the most brutal stipulation in All Elite Wrestling, the Lights Out Match.

On the St. Patrick’s Day Slam special of Dynamite, Rosa and Baker met in the first Lights Out Match in the show’s history and the first women’s main event in company history.

This lived up to the previous Lights Out clashes with the women using every weapon they could use.

There were steel chairs, ladders and tables. Baker and Rosa both bleed with Britt’s crimson mask becoming one of the lasting visuals of the years.

The most memorable spot saw Thunder Rosa give Britt Baker a powerbomb onto thumbtacks, but only got a two count.

After a bloody, historic main event, Rosa hit the Fire Thunder Driver off the apron on Baker to win. This put both women and the entire division on the map.

2. Kenny Omega vs. Bryan Danielson – AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam

No one could have thought they would witness this match heading into 2021.

At All Out 2021, Bryan Danielson made his AEW debut and stood across the ring from Kenny Omega.

In the weeks to follow, the company set the stage for a dream match of two of the best wrestlers of their generation.

On the most attended show in All Elite Wrestling history, AEW World Champion Kenny Omega and Bryan Danielson went one-on-one at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York.

Omega and Danielson put on a masterclass that had every fan on the edge of their seats.

Bryan showed that the American Dragon lived, bringing back old moves and mannerisms that he hadn’t used since signing with WWE.

The Best Bout Machine was the closest he’s been to his NJPW self and went hold-for-hold against Danielson.

With Omega as champion and Danielson in his first AEW match, the finish was absolutely perfect. The two competitors fought to an awe-inspiring 30-minute time limit draw with no one being dissatisfied.

This is easily in the top two AEW Dynamite matches of all time.

1. The Young Bucks vs. The Lucha Brothers – AEW All Out 2021

The Young Bucks vs. The Lucha Brothers can make the claim for being the feud that has defined the marvelous AEW tag team division.

The two tag teams put on a banger at the first pay-per-view for the company, Double Or Nothing 2019.

They followed that up with arguably the greatest ladder match in wrestling history in the Escalera De La Muerte Ladder Match at All Out 2019.

They split these two clashes and didn’t face each other for two years. In that time, the Young Bucks won the AEW World Tag Team Titles and turned heel by reuniting the Elite with Kenny Omega.

The Elite consistently helped the Bucks retain the gold, so Tony Khan made their defense at AEW All Out 2021 a Steel Cage Match.

The Young Bucks and the Lucha Brothers once again delivered one of the greatest stipulation matches of all time.

This Steel Cage Match was pure insanity with incredible double team moves, thumbtack sneakers and a wild dive off the cage by Rey Fenix.

The Lucha Bros finally claimed the AEW World Tag Team Titles by hitting the assisted Package Piledriver to win the gold.
