4. Senator Linda McMahon?
Why should Vince get to have all the fun?
Linda McMahon currently sits on the Cabinet of the US government as the Administrator of the Small Businesses Association. The woman who kicked her husband in the groin on live TV at WrestleMania X-7 is now one of the most powerful political figures in America. Did somebody let WWE 2K Universe Mode book the government or something?
This is not Mrs. McMahon’s first foray into politics, however. In both 2010 and 2012, McMahon attempted to run for the US senate in her home state of Connecticut. Securing the Republican nomination both times, she was ultimately unsuccessful in her two campaigns. So much for 50/50 booking, I suppose.
In an attempt to boost Linda’s chances of getting elected (and clean up their public image at the same time), WWE began a campaign called “Stand Up For WWE”, in which its in-ring performers spoke passionately about all the good things WWE has done over the years and why things like Kane forcibly impregnating Lita, Triple H’s racist feud with Booker T, and Katie Vick were all just bumps on an otherwise smooth and electable road.
WWE shamelessly used its own talent (who were on the company payroll, in case you’d forgotten) to promote it and Linda’s own interests. She was accused multiple times during her campaign of using her money and position as WWE’s former CEO to her benefit, and if the Stand Up For WWE campaign doesn’t prove that those accusations weren’t true, then who knows what will.
