WWE Royal Rumble 2018 PREDICTIONS!

The Usos vs. Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin

The officials rules of WWE can perhaps best be described as “fluid”, changing from week to week, sometimes even from angle to angle, depending on the storytelling needs of the promotion at the time. In the case of Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin, their tag title win over the Usos on SmackDown was overturned because they scored the pinfall over the wrong brother, a decision they were unable to contest because the referee’s decision was “final”. Well, that week it was, at least!

Feeling wronged, “The World’s Greatest American Tag Team Angle Alpha” complained at length, questioning whether they had to defeat the champs twice in one night to get the justice they felt they deserved. Daniel Bryan, in keeping with his recently developed father-like character trait of making his whiny roster regret what they had wished for, decided that was a great idea and booked a 2/3 falls match for the belts at the Rumble.

When it comes to predictions, WWE’s usually-irritating formulaic booking style comes in handy. They follow their established blueprint so closely and so often that having the challengers win on TV and then lose in the PPV payoff has become a firmly entrenched trope. As the Usos have fallen three times in succession to the challengers (in a non-title match, the phantom tag switch, and via a Gable win over Jey in singles), one has to feel the Usos will get the job done. They were one of the teams of the year in 2017 – not just in WWE but anywhere – and warrant a lengthy run with the straps. I expect them to retain here and drop them later down the line.

WINNER PREDICTION: The Usos
