On the road to WWE SummerSlam 2026, there have been several matches teased or hinted at that will not take place in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Whether it be due to injury or just a change of plans, these matches that have been canceled would have totally changed how fans look at the SummerSlam 2026 card.

Considering there are just mere hours remaining before the two-night event will start, it feels like a great time to look at some of the different bouts that have been scrapped in the weeks leading into ‘The Biggest Party of the Summer.’

Here are six potential WWE SummerSlam 2026 matches that ended up not taking place.

6. Rhea Ripley vs. Jacy Jayne For The WWE Women’s Championship

On the April 24 WWE SmackDown after WrestleMania 42, Fatal Influence made their main roster debut and immediately staked their claim to championship gold.

On that first night on the brand, Jacy Jayne went toe-to-toe with Rhea Ripley in a non-title match that ended in a DQ loss thanks to interference from Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid.

This led to some reports circulating that Jayne was being discussed as a possible opponent for Ripley for the WWE Women’s Championship at SummerSlam 2026.

With Ripley currently out of action with a knee injury, Jayne getting her first shot at the gold at WWE SummerSlam 2026 was not meant to be – instead Fatal Influence will face Paige and the Bella Twins in a six-woman tag match.

5, Charlotte Flair vs. Jade Cargill

Over the past few months, fans have watched Charlotte Flair and Jade Cargill feud with one another and repeatedly get involved in each other’s business.

Costing each other championship gold and key matches, Cargill and Flair have established one of the most intense rivalries in WWE right now.

Recently, Cargill, Michin and B-Fab executed a three-on-two assault that ended with Jade breaking Alexa Bliss’ arm right in front of Flair.

While both ladies will compete in the five-way ladder match for the Interim WWE Women’s Championship at the event, Charlotte and Jade will not clash in a singles action at the SummerSlam 2026 premium live event.

4. Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker

Bron Breakker was responsible for orchestrating the betrayal of The Vision on Seth Rollins following his serious shoulder injury.

When Rollins returned from injury, Breakker was out of action with a hernia, but he returned to cost his former Vision leader his bout against GUNTHER.

This led to Breakker beating his former mentor at WWE Backlash, but then he lost to Rollins twice on the June 1 episode of WWE Raw and in a Steel Cage match at Night of Champions 2026.

At the start of this feud, it felt like Rollins and Breakker would be at each other’s throats for much longer than they were and could have set up a final blowoff match at WWE SummerSlam 2026.

3. CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Sami Zayn vs. GUNTHER For The Undisputed WWE Championship

At WWE Night of Champions 2026, Sami Zayn defeated GUNTHER and Cody Rhodes to win the Undisputed WWE Championship.

After GUNTHER took out his scheduled opponent Rhodes before the match, Zayn lost the title just nine days later to CM Punk on the July 6 episode of Monday Night Raw.

Then, Punk and Rhodes teamed to overcome both GUNTHER and Zayn in a tag team match at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event to deny them from making their Undisputed WWE Championship match at SummerSlam 2026 a four-way.

To many fans, the Punk vs. Rhodes Undisputed WWE Championship match should be a four-way and give both GUNTHER and Zayn their opportunity to win the gold as well at ‘The Biggest Party of the Summer.’

2. GUNTHER vs. Brock Lesnar

Months ago, talk about WWE SummerSlam 2026 was completely centered on what Brock Lesnar would be doing at the event taking place in his hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Considering Lesnar is 49 years old and has been with the company for well over 15 years, many fans believed SummerSlam would be the setting for the final match of his career.

At the same time, GUNTHER had earned the moniker of ‘The Career Killer’ after retiring Goldberg, AJ Styles and John Cena over the past year.

With everything he has accomplished, GUNTHER facing Lesnar felt like such a no-brainer move and it’s quite surprising WWE did not pull the trigger on this one in Minneapolis.

1. Roman Reigns vs. Oba Femi For The World Heavyweight Championship

At WWE Night of Champions 2026, Oba Femi defeated Jey Uso to win the King of the Ring final.

Thanks to his victory, Femi was guaranteed a shot at the world title of his choosing at the WWE SummerSlam 2026 premium live event.

While he could have chosen the Undisputed WWE Championship, many fans believed that Femi was on a collision course with World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns in Minneapolis.

However, Femi gave up his title shot to face Brock Lesnar in Hell In A Cell thus scraping this potential showdown with Reigns to a later date.
