WWE Star Says Heel Turn Was ‘Ruined’ By Another Star’s Return

A WWE star has joked that another star’s return to the company ‘ruined’ their heel run that they had been begging for.

Last Summer, WWE Hall of Famer Nikki Bella made her return to WWE television in time for the Evolution premium live event in Atlanta back in July.

Nikki was originally set to face Liv Morgan on the show, though the match ended up not taking place due to Liv suffering an injury, with Nikki instead being part of the Battle Royal on the show.

Nikki would end up turning heel later in the year, with her feuding with Stephanie Vaquer over the Women’s World Championship to close out 2025.

Nikki Bella Jokes That Brie’s Return ‘Ruined’ Heel Run

In the 2026 Royal Rumble match, Nikki made her return to WWE television, as did her sister Brie Bella, who had not competed since the 2022 Royal Rumble match prior to her return.

Following Brie’s return, the Bella Twins were positioned as babyfaces on WWE television, ending Nikki’s run as a heel.

Speaking to Unseen with Joey Karni, Nikki was asked about her heel run, noting that she had been begging to turn heel, and joked about Brie being ‘too over’ and ruining the run.

She said:

“I’d been begging to have a heel turn, to be a heel, I just know I thrive so much in that position, it’s just so natural.

“Then Brie came in and ruined everything, which was fine because we were going in such a great direction, and then Rumble came up and they didn’t know if Brie was coming back or not. So when Brie came back it was like ‘well Nikki obviously needs to be with her’.

“Then we go out that night on Philly Raw and they just look at me and go ‘you have to be neutral’. I was like ‘but I literally just turned on my brand new best friend Stephanie, what?’

“Not that I was bummed, but I was loving the direction I was going in, I was getting so much heat and it was a lot of fun. I was even getting text messages from all these people like ‘loving the heel thing, keep going for that’.

“Then (Brie) showed up and ruined everything. Why did you have to be so over?

“So I’m hoping to see that version of me in the future, not sure when but I would love to get back on being that type of character.”

Brie Bella Opens Up On Return Of ‘Divas’ In WWE

The Bella Twins were key members of the WWE roster during 2015’s Diva’s Revolution, which saw the company’s women’s division go from the Divas label to being simply referred to as ‘superstars’.

For many years WWE had not referred to the Divas name, though a new generation of women’s stars who grew up on Total Divas have begun reusing the name, including Maxxine Dupri, Tiffany Stratton and Chelsea Green.

Brie was asked about the newer stars using the Divas term, with her saying that it’s fun to see as the women no longer have to fight for equality.

She said:

“I think being called a Diva for so long, we all loved it, but then when we got to our one storyline it kind of tarnished the name a little bit, so then you’re almost embarrassed to be a Diva, then we were all really trying to push for equality, so being called a Superstar meant you were equal to the men.

“Now I feel like it had that moment, but now years have gone on and everyone looks at us as equal now. I feel like there isn’t so much ‘the men get all this and the women have nothing’, you’re really starting to see women main eventing, they’re getting as many matches as men. I’ve been loving being on SmackDown because some Fridays we have more female matches than men.

“I think it’s been fun for the girls to bring back Diva because it doesn’t feel so bad anymore to be called a Diva, you almost love it because they’ve all been inspired by Total Divas and why they got in the business, so when they call themselves that they’re putting themselves in Natalya’s situation, or the Funkadactyls or the Bellas.”
