Former AEW Continental Champion Eddie Kingston has revealed an AEW angle scrapped “several times” by Tony Khan.
In 2022, Eddie Kingston was involved in a bitter rivalry with Chris Jericho that featured the Jericho Appreciation Society and Blackpool Combat Club.
The feud saw the two men do battle in Anarchy In The Arena and Blood & Guts before culminating in Barbed Wire Everywhere Death Match.
However, there was one angle that wasn’t able to be used during their months-long rivalry.
In a feature about Terry Funk and Ric Flair’s 1989 feud published by The Ringer, Eddie Kingston revealed that he asked AEW President Tony Khan to redo the infamous plastic bag angle that Flair and Funk did at Clash of the Champions 8.
Reflecting on the creative process in AEW during his 2022 feud with Chris Jericho, Kingston said:
“Trust me, I know how Turner is scared about that because I’ve asked about the plastic bag several times,”
“It was always walking in and Tony [Khan] going, ‘We’re not doing the plastic bag.’”
Eddie Kingston is currently sidelined after undergoing surgery for a torn ACL and meniscus that he suffered in a bout with Gabe Kidd in May.
It remains to be seen when Kingston will make his return to AEW programming at the time of this writing.
WrestleTalk will provide further updates on Eddie Kingston’s injury when they become available.
