Top AEW Star Says ‘Very, Very Wild Time’ Was Key To Success AEW

The AEW roster is a deep one and standing out amongst some of the most critical fans in wrestling is a challenge one team overcame.

From its origins as a name that Tony Khan had in mind “for a long time” to a rejected pitch to Chris Jericho, it was eventually bestowed upon the team of Max Caster and Anthony Bowens.

The pair would be signed by AEW in November 2020 but their road to living up to their name would be a rocky one.

It would be their association with Billy Gunn that would rocket them even closer to the top, along with the now frequent “Oh, scissor me, Daddy!” chants.

In a recent interview with Screen Rant Plus, Anthony Bowens reflected on all this, saying:

“It was a very, very wild time.

“Going into All Out, Max and I knew we had a big opportunity to go out there and really show what we can do, especially on our biggest pay-per-view of the year, at All Out in Chicago. [Many] people were like, ‘Well, why is this match even on the card? Blah, blah, blah, complaining about things. And we knew once we got out there that we were going to do something special.”

And, “do something special” is certainly what they did, spurred on by the crowds reaction.

Bowens would explain this, saying:

“Did we know it would get as crazy as it did? No. Honestly, no.

“We got out there, and they started singing, ‘Oh, scissor me, Daddy,’ for the first time.

“And I think there’s even a point in the match where I’m trying to wrestle Swerve down to the mat, and the both of us, momentarily, our differences dissipated, and we looked up and went, ‘What the hell is happening?'”

The match against Swerve in our Glory at AEW All Out in September wouldn’t see The Acclaimed claim the AEW tag team belt, but they would go on to do so later in the same month at AEW Dynamite Grand Slam.
